DAGOS PAG-USWAG
September 2023
Project Description
The project is a design of a new community development civic center in the municipality of Sipocot, Camarines Sur. The design of the center will serve as a social hub of different programs responding to the needs and preferences of the community. With proper incorporation of services, collaboration and cultural design, hopefully the local residents can have a center that they can call their own.
Design Concept
BAYANIHAN TUNGO KAUSWAGAN
Bayanihan is a Filipino custom, derived from the word “bayan” which means nation, town or community. The term bayanihan itself refers to the spirit of communal and cooperative work, which literally means “being in a bayan” when translated. Kauswagan, on the other hand, refers to development in Bicol language.
Similar to the proposed project, the building will be a new and developed venue of community services where residents [have] a center that they can call their own and could achieve and improve human development aspects while being in a community.
Form Concept
POCOT
The design of the structure should take inspiration and complement the historical character and the contemporary context of the municipality. It is largely believed that the name of the municipality, Sipocot, was derived from the word ‘pocot’, referring to a fishing net when translated. The form of the building, facade elements and interior spaces will incorporate grid forms to mimic the net’s meshes.
